Although some potter's fields were located in recognized cemeteries, some were not. Many of these early fields for the indigent, poor or criminals have become lost over time. One such site in Oklahoma City was in a area near a river that frequently changed course and flooded (area of current Bricktown) and a paupers cemetery in Illinois simply disappears from maps and becomes an area of commercial development over the years.
