The parish of Christ Church, Stony Mountain, began as a mission in the early 1870s. The first services were held in John Robinson's house in 1872. Once the Stony Mountain Penitentiary was completed in 1877, services were held in the chapel there.
In 1905 the congregation decided to build their own church. On 16 September 1906, the church was opened and dedicated. It was consecrated the following year on 8 September. Of special interest is the church bell. The bell was seized from Fort Whoop Up, Alberta where it was used by whiskey runners. The bell was then sent to Ottawa until an application was made by the warden at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary to have it sent to Christ Church. On 24 May 1981, a six-foot wooden cross was erected on the south exterior wall of the parish hall and dedicated to the memory of the pioneers of Christ Church.

Established in 1906, a monument next to the church commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Anglican Parish of Christ Church in 2006. Near the back of the cemetery is a monument commemorating the pioneers and veterans of the Stony Mountain area and the nearby St. Joseph (Catholic) Parish.

A part of the community's story, and those of its inhabitants, from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1982 is told in the volume "Rockwood Echoes - 90 Years of Progress (1870 - 1960)", especially on the cited pages, and the later related volume "100 Years of History, Rockwood Municipality".
Free digital versions of these and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0463), transcribed by a member or members in 1989 and updated in 2015. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
