This ancestral burial plot is located on a beautiful upland, not far from Rough River. It is surrounded by the land and residence long the homestead of the late E. Peter Thomas, prominent Hartford business, civic, and religious leader, then of his daughter, Mrs. Pearle Schroeter, and family and later owned by Robert L. Pirtle, member of another prominent pioneer Ohio county family. The site of this home is at the dead-end of what was formerly an extension of Clay street, but is now called McCreery Court in honor of the pioneer doctor who was one of the two most eminent physicians of this city, county and state. A portion of the McCreery residence is believed to be incorporated in the beautiful old "Pete Thomas place" as it has been known for nearly three generations. The Crow-McCreery God's acre, containing the graves of Dr. and Mrs. McCreery, Col. Crow, and many other members of the family together with those of a number of non-relatives, was kept fenced and cared for by Mr. Thomas and daughter.

CARES FOR GOD'S ACRE
Because he cares, Gale (Red) Kirk has transformed a thicket of weeds, briars and overturned monuments into a respectable-appearing cemetery in Hartford as if an epitaph to Longfellow who once penned, "I like that ancient Saxon phrase which calls the burial ground God's acre!" The historic small McCreery Cemetery atop a man-made knoll between apartment units in McCreery Court had been neglected and abused. One marker, long overturned and covered with soil and vines, was unearthed by Kitt, scrubbed and cleaned by two other nearby residents also interested in better upkeep of the graves, Mrs. D.C. Perguson and Mrs. Kay Hall. Most of the markers in the historic cemetery had fallen over but all had been straightened by Mr. Kirk. Those who are interested feel the monuments should be permanently set and a fence erected around the cemetery for protection. A gate that can be kept locked would permit workers to keep the grounds mowed and clean. Mrs. D.C. Perguson has volunteered to serve as chairman of a fund drive to finance the cost of a fence and Mrs. Lucille Weedman, manager of the apartment complex, has offered to seed and fertilize the grounds.
