The Nursery and Child's Hospital was founded in 1854 and was located at the corner of 15th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. In 1869, the Country Home and Hospital was established in West New Brighton (Castleton Corners), which became known as the Country Branch of the Nursery and Child's Hospital. The Country Branch of the Nursery and Child's Hospital was located on the west side of Manor Road south of its intersection with Schmidt Lane. On 7 November 1904, a fire destroyed the main building. On 25 April 1905, the Country Branch was closed. The closure was thought to be temporary while funds were raised to upgrade the Country Branch to meet Board of Health standards. However, the Country Branch was not reopened.



The Borough of Richmond, Topographical Survey (New York, August 1908), Sheet No. 31 (Includes Castleton Corners and Todd Hill) shows the cemetery on the property of the Nursery and Childs Hospital about 1070 feet west of Manor Road and about 1270 feet south of the intersection of Manor Road and Schmidt Lane.
