Add PhotosAccording to the National Register for Historical Places nomination form, Gilbert McMillan died March 12, 1832 and was interred at the cemetery on his plantation where his first wife Margaret was buried following her death, November 27, 1817. He left "the dwelling house" to his second wife Sarah and relatives, thereafter, were buried.
The cemetery is located 400 yards southeast of where the house stood and from which was visible. There are a total of forty inscribed stones with twenty-two being enclosed within an iron fence that surrounds the McMillan section. The cemetery is located near a heavy stand of pines. It is in the vicinity of the old Laurel Hill Church.
Directions: East .6 mile to .8 mile from corner of Snead's Grove Road and Trader Road on Trader Road in Scotland County, North Carolina. Cemetery is approximately 50 to 60 feet to the right off the road.
The property description is Lot 20, Map 313, that portion of Lot 2, Map 313 which lies on the northeast side of SR 1325. Lot 20 is recorded in Scotland County Deed Book 8 M, page 157.
