U.S. Congressman. Born in York County, Pennsylvania, he was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of militia in 1786, a Brigadier General in 1800 and Major General of the 14th Division of Militia for the Washington and Greene Counties, in 1807. He was appointed High Sheriff of Washington County by Pennsylvania Governor Mifflin in 1793 and served until 1796. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate (1796-1805), Associate Judge of Washington County (1802-05), and a member of the first board of trustees of Jefferson College. In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth Congress, serving until 1807. After his term, he was again Associate Judge of Washington County and served until his death at his home near Ginger Hill, Pennsylvania, at age 82.
