Robert E Earle was enlisted and elected 2nd Lieutenant on June 4, 1861, at Montevallo, Alabama, for the war. He died from a gunshot wound to his head received while he was lying asleep in his own tent, on October 4, 1861. The descending ball fell through the top of his tent, struck him behind his right ear and lodged in his left temple. Robert Emmett Earle, abt age 20, enlisted June 4, 1861 in Co B, 10th AL Infantry, 3rd Lieutenant. Unit was sent to Virginia,
and arrived day after 1st Battle of Bull Run (Manassas).

Robert Earle was killed at Centreville, near Manassas, Va on Oct 4, 1861 while asleep in his tent by a descending ball which fell through the top of his tent striking behind his right ear and lodging in his left temple.

His family returned his body for burial at Elyton, and he was reinterred later with other family members at Oak Hill Cemetery.
