Born the daughter of Elizabeth Ann Macon and James Ewell Heath. James E. Heath, was a writer and editor of the Southern Literary Messenger.
Ellen married Virginius Dabney on October 12, 1858. She died giving birth to her son Richard Heath Dabney. Thus the symbolism of the broken rose blossom and the tiny rosebud on her stone.
She is the grandmother of the well known and respected author and editor Virginius Dabney 1901-1995.
