(from to The Minutes of the Provincial Council, printed in Colonial Records, Vol. III, page 457 ) 16 adult males were on board the ship "Charming Betty" but only 15 pledged the Oath of Allegiance. Since Wilhelm Imler is not on the list who pledged Allegiance and since he arrived "sick", it is reasonable to think that he died within days of the ship's docking.

All adult male immigrants were required by a law instituted in 1727 to renounce their allegiance to their homeland's government and swear allegiance to the English government upon arrival at a port in the British colonies. (from to The Minutes of the Provincial Council, printed in Colonial Records, Vol. III, page 457 ) 16 adult males were on board the ship "Charming Betty" but only 15 pledged the Oath of Allegiance. Since Wilhelm Imler is not on the list who pledged Allegiance and since he arrived "sick", it is reasonable to think that he died within days of the ship's docking.
