Gerald Smith, 72, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, surrounded by family in Fort Worth.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook.
Jerry Smith was born March 13, 1943, in Clayton, N.M., son of the late Othie N. and Gladys Nova Winter Smith. He made his career in safety training and retired after many dedicated years. Family was number one to Jerry followed closely by hunting, fishing, and camping. Jerry was a hands-on teacher and mentor to his own children as well as others throughout his life and dedicated several years to Boys Ranch and the youth ministry at church. In fact, Jerry's heart was in youth ministry and that was passed on to his grandchildren.
Jerry loved people and he knew no stranger. When someone walked away after meeting him, they walked away with a blessing and a smile. Jerry and Pat married in the parsonage at the first Baptist Church in Dalhart and celebrated 53 years of marriage on June 2, 2015. Jerry was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Saginaw since 2008.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Howard Smith; and his sisters, Nita Kelly and Beverly Marker.
Survivors: Wife, Pat Smith of Fort Worth; daughters, Karen Gage and husband, Drue, of Granbury, Kimberly O'Quin and husband, Robert, of Fort Worth, and Kelli Tidwell and husband, Bill, of Balch Springs; grandchildren, Jeremy Gage, Jaclyn Oteo and husband, Roy, Ashley Zachry and husband, Thomas, Casey O'Quin and wife, Jordan, Timothy Peterson and wife, Ashley, and Nathan Tidwell; great-grandchildren, Chelsea McFarland, Aiden Zachry, Kaylie Peterson, and Tegan Peterson; brother, Clifford Smith and wife, Peggy, of Virginia; sister-in-law, Lydia Smith of Roy, N.M.; Randy Kelly and wife, Peggy, of Dalhart; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family and friends.
