Grady Mullen was born on September 28, 1916. He was the youngest of eight children of Joe and Frankie Collins Mullen of the Fair River Community. His mother passed away when he was only fourteen years old.
He married the love of his life, Florence Dyess, on
May 8, 1937. They were happily married for almost 51 years. It was a couple months shy of their 51st wedding anniversary when Florence passed away. They were loving parents to Melinda, Billy, Glenn, Frances, and to a beautiful firstborn baby boy who passed away during childbirth.
Grady was a highly esteemed business owner and operator in Brookhaven, Mississippi for over thirty years before retiring . He enjoyed working with the public and never met a stranger. He was a member of the Fair River Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd Degree mason and had served in all offices. He was also awarded a 50 year membership pin at Fair River Masonic Lodge. Grady was a member and Past President of the Brookhaven Shrine Club of which he was a York Rite Shriner. Also, he was one of the founding members of the Brookhaven Rotary Club and a member of the Brookhaven Eastern Star.
Grady was a lifelong member of Fair River Baptist Church where he served in many facets over the years including Deacon (and Chairman of the Deacons), Church Treasurer, alongside his wife Florence, who served as Financial Secretary for many years.
A strong love for God and family, a firm handshake, and a hearty good-humored laugh when telling his stories of times gone by were all avid descriptors of Grady. His favorite hobbies were raising cattle and farming on the property that he and Florence diligently worked to acquire and purchased together.
He is truly loved and missed by his family and all of his many friends.
