On June 4, 1892, the first burial took place at the Cedar Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Sophie Bolte who had recently arrived from Germany with her young grandson, John H. Von Ohlen.
Mrs Bolte's death attributed to the rough crossing and lack of proper housing upon arrival. Ironically the child that she had delivered to its parents, died in 1899 at near 10 years of age.
