The Prospect Hill Cemetery is located at 41 County Route 47 just east of the Village of Argyle. The cemetery is situated on over 14 acres of rolling hills with a spring-fed pond along with numerous mature hardwood trees. As Argyle grew in the early 1800's, local citizens quickly realized a larger cemetery, then the initial Old Scots Cemetery, would be needed. In May 1855 the Prospect Hill Cemetery Board of Trustees met for the first time and the cemetery was opened for burials.

As of December 2021, the cemetery has over 3,300 graves marked with memorial stones/markers and approximately 100 unmarked graves divided between the original eleven section portion of the cemetery and a newer four section annex.
