Knox Centennial 1876 - 1976:
" Edenburg Churches
Emmanuel Lutheran Church
Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized on February 25, 1842. Its founders were a group of members from the St.Pauls Lutheran Church. The members of the congregation, wishing to form a new church that would preform the service in English, decided to construct a church [first] in what was later called Beaver City in 1842.
The site the congregation chose was also the site for an oil well to be drilled. The royalties from the well were used to construct a new [second] church and this frame church was dedicated in 1877.
After the oil boom subsided, the population of Beaver City dropped drastically. With this, the church decided to move to Knox. The church was literally moved and rebuilt in 1890 [third] and later replaced with the brick church in 1917 [fourth] and that is the building you see today.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church also hosted another congregation until they started their own church in Lamartine, which is now known as the Salem Lutheran Church.
Twenty five pastors have served this church since since its founding . The present pastor is Lewis R. Fox, who has served the Knox congregation , as well as St. Paul's since 1946."
