Kadina Cemetery was established about 1862-1863 on land about one kilometre north of Kadina, South Australia. A group of trustees were appointed to run the cemetery, under curator Mr C. Hooper. About the mid to late 1800s the trustees funded the construction of a stone wall around the nine-acre cemetery at a cost of 600 pounds ($1200). A struggle to make ends meet beset the board of trustees for some years, but when their financial situation improved in 1875 they erected the fine mortuary that still stands in the centre of the grounds. The large drive-through section was designed to allow the conducting of funerals under cover during inclement weather.
Control of the cemetery was taken over by the Corporation of Kadina in May 1932. In early 1996 the District Council of Northern Yorke Peninsula restored the mortuary and at the same time the three local service clubs undertook the removal of several hundred pine trees which had been planted in the cemetery around 1900. The trees had become a menace to graves, when their roots began destroying historic graves and footpaths. Further enhancement has occurred in the past decade with the planting of a lawned section, establishment of a rose plot on either side of the entrance road, and current restoration of the boundary stone wall by qualified stonemasons.
