St. Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery - 29625 Lakeview Line, Wallacetown
The cemetery is situated high over Lake Erie upon a long, narrow, gently rolling stretch of ground almost directly across from the church. To find the cemetery, travel south from Wallacetown on the Talbot Trail (formerly #3 highway) and stay on the Tartop Road as far as it goes then turn left onto Lakeview Line.. You will come to the Backus-Page house museum first, on the left; then the church manse and St. Peter's Church also on the left side with the cemetery on the right fronted with white picket fence and large sign stating it is St. Peter's Cemetery.
The cemetery sits on land donated by Mary Storey and her brother, Leslie Patterson. St. Peter's Cemetery's first maked burial is 1818 and is the 4-year old son of Leslie Patterson. St Peter's Cemetery was deeded to the bishop of Quebec and registered in 1828. This was the final resting place for many of the settlers (and their descendants) of this area known as "Little Ireland" such as Storey, Morris, Backus and Patterson families.
St. Peter's is also the burial place of Colonel Thomas Talbot, the land baron responsible for settling newcomers on land in 29 different townships. He has been called one of the most "effective settlement promoters" in Ontario's past by numerous historians.
