Add PhotosThe last cemetery was one Frost labeled as "Back of Presbyterian Church," indicating its location was distinct from the other three cemeteries.
Photographs of Christ First Presbyterian Church from the early 1900's show the church building as much smaller. It would appear that, needing to expand, the Church relocated these "back of the Church" burials. With few exceptions, I have not been able to discover to where these burials were relocated, or what became of the markers.
Due to the number of early burials and the value of the genealogical information contained on the markers, I have created a 'cemetery' for these burials. All marker transcriptions included here are from Josephine Frost's book; none are knowingly duplicated in the listings of any other cemetery in Nassau County.
Transcribed marriage & baptismal records from this church, beginning in 1805, are .
### MAKING CONNECTIONS ###
Of those persons cataloged in this cemetery in 1904, DR. JOB DAVIS was relocated to Greenfield Cemetery at Uniondale; HERMAN HINMAN and MARY HINMAN GILDERSLEVE are at Manhasset Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery. BENJAMIN P. GILDERSLEVE and wife, NANCY RAYNOR are at Hempstead's Denton Green Cemetery. REV. ZACHARIAH GREENE and family are at Hempstead's Old Town Burying Ground. And, while a number of former residents of this cemetery now have Find-A-Grave memorials at the latter cemetery, many individuals once interred together as a family unit aren't listed together there. I have included those 'missing persons' here in case someone comes looking for them.
On the 1873 Hempstead map from the Atlas of Long Island by Beers, Comstock, & Cline, the Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Cemetery (located behind the church) were adjacent to and west of the Old Town Burying Ground, which was adjacent to and west of New Cemetery, which was west of the Presbyterian Parsonage (now occupied by Christ's First Presbyterian Church) on the northwest corner of the intersection of Fulton Street and Washington Street.
