---------------------------------------------------
Since time immemorial, A Coruna has been an Hispanic bridge to the British Isles, an evidence of which is this British Cemetery set up within, although separated from San Amaro graveyard. In 1867 William Congreve Cutliffe Brackenbury, then British consul in Galicia, bought the plots of land where the cemetery was to be built. The works were completed over the following year. Coincidentally, the first burial was that of the consul himself.
Funerals were held here until the 1970s. In 1982, the final burial was performed, which was the last to the present day. Within the graveyard lie consuls, sailors, and citizens, not only British but also French, German and Swiss.
