West Cemetery
Ashby, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
It is in three distinct sections that developed over time, which are referred to from east to west as Old Section, Section 1 and Section 2. The middle part of the cemetery (Section 1) was acquired by the town around 1910, while the western part of the cemetery (Section 2) was added around 1960.
There are three Revolutionary War veterans buried here; Brig. Gen. Josiah Whitney (d. 1806), Lt. James King (d. 1811) and Capt. John Jones (d. 1811). There are also veterans of later wars buried here including Civil War veteran Jonathan N. Mansfield (d. 1864) who died at Vicksburg.
The cemetery is comprised of about 2.09 acres with the earliest death date of 1800. The cemetery is still in use and as of 2007 there were approximately 200+ stones.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as ASY.801 West Cemetery.
