The Methodist Chapel Cemetery is in the northwest corner of Franklin Township and is about one acre of ground, which is well filled with graves, though not crowded.
The cemetery was part of the Methodist Wesley Chapel, also called the Methodist Episcopal Church, organized in 1838, by members of five families. The church was closed by the 1880's.
Nestled behind the Beech Grove Administration Building, it lies on a small hill overlooking the Beech Grove Shops of the Amtrak Railroad.
It is well kept and is now maintained by the Franklin Twp. Trustee.
Although a bit hidden by a woods, it is a lovely serene little area which appears to have it's first burial in 1848 and the latest in 1909.
Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 1, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (02 April 2005), gives the primary cemetery name as Methodist Episcopal Cemetery with an alternate name of Churchman Chapel Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-49-27 (Methodist Chapel / Methodist Episcopal).
