Established in 1929
(Source: Manitoba Genealogical Society)
Formerly known as the Assiniboine Memorial Park Cemetery, this cemetery in west Winnipeg, complete with a mausoleum and multiple columbaria, was opened around August 1929 on River Lots 90-93 in the Parish of St. Charles.
As of late 1950, its name was changed to Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The service building was designed by Dwight R. Johnston and constructed by the A. W. Peterson Construction Company.
(Source: Manitoba Historical Society [Adapted])
Dominion Land Survey coordinates (partial; for land near the office): LSD10-36-10-01-E1
While located outside the Perimeter Highway, this cemetery is still within the boundaries of the "Assiniboia Downs" neighbourhood of Greater Winnipeg
Each of the sections of this well-maintained 89-acre (36-hectare) cemetery has a unique atmosphere and occupies a significant land area. Vehicular access is via a network of well-maintained roads.
The Manitoba Genealogical Society recognizes this as the second-largest cemetery in the province by the number of memorials it contains (reference #0330). It was transcribed by a member or members in 1988 when it was much smaller. The Society makes available to MGS members a searchable online database of the transcribed graves as part of their service named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI).
Of note: This cemetery is adjacent to the Assumption Cemetery and Queen of Heaven Mausoleum and memorials on this service may not be associated with the correct cemetery
