St. Boniface cemetery was consecrated in 1863.

Named for the apostle of Germany, it was the first cemetery servicing the needs of the German Catholic community in Chicago.

The first internment at St. Boniface was for a 9-day old infant named Marie Jung. This burial took place on October 19, 1863. To date there have been 90,501 burials at St. Boniface. This cemetery no longer has any grave space available for purchase. Current burials are still held for persons who hold a deed to an unused plot.

St. Boniface is located at the intersection of Clark and Lawrence, on Chicago’s far north side, in the uptown neighborhood.

St. Boniface cemetery no longer has an operations office on-site. Records are housed and maintained at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston.
