This cemetery of about 20 acres, established in 1902, is operated and maintained by the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint-Boniface. It offers lawn burials and a columbarium.

While the neighbourhood of Saint-Boniface (or St Boniface) is a historic part of Manitoba from before the time of the Red River Settlers and maintains many aspects of its French culture, it is now fully absorbed into the administration of the City of Winnipeg or Greater Winnipeg
It was determined in 1902 that the Cathedral cemetery was no longer adequate to meet the needs of the Parish and this one was created and went into use.
There are sections of the cemetery dedicated to the nuns of various orders who served the Parish and the Diocese of Saint-Boniface in many roles throughout the decades. These sections are noticeable by the large memorial walls that adorn them.
About the former "St. Boniface Oblate Fathers Cemetery" that was on Des Meurons Street:
A cemetery was established in 1913 by the Catholic Order of the Oblate Fathers in St. Boniface for people associated with the Order. Later, the land was granted towards the founding of the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain [Franco-Manitoba Cultural Centre]. In late 2015, the graves were exhumed, with the remains cremated and transferred to the St. Boniface Cemetery, where members of their Order have been interred since 1972. (Source: Manitoba Historical Society [Adapted])
Parts of the area's story and those of its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement are told in various local history books. Free digital versions of these and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
Of note: This cemetery is not adjacent to the much older Saint Boniface Cathedral Cemetery, however many death notices and obituaries through the years mentioned only "St Boniface Cemetery" or "the parish cemetery" and memorials on this service may not be associated with the correct cemetery, ESPECIALLY if the burial occurred after 1902 and was not into a niche in the columbarium installed much more recently in the Cathedral yard.
