Daniel I Conner Sr came to the Copper Hill, Floyd County Virginia area around. 1778-9. Daniel owned the land that the old Head of the River Church and Cemetery was located on. The original foundation stones of the first church are located near the South Eastern corner of the old Cemetery. There you will find some very old soapstone tombstones that are now pretty much unreadable. You will not find most of the old grave markers which marked the older grave in the area. Daniel himself , along with his sons Andrew, Jonathan, William, and their wives were buried in this area and had only a rock for their marker. Back in the late 50's or very early 60's, one of the care takers and deacon in the church decided that it would be easier to mow if these field stones, broken makers, and illegible stones were removed. So they were hauled away and dumped in the woods. No one remembers the exact location of Daniel's, his early relatives, or any of the early settlers stones.
