Long Branch Baptist Church was established in 1904 and is off of Hwy #441 near Shaw AFB, Sumter County, S. C. The church and its cemetery are home to the Turkish people of the Dalzell area of Sumter County, S. C. The Turkish people area a singular people-of-color ethnic group living mostly in the Dalzell in the 1900s & with worship centered at Long Branch Baptist Church & burials in its cemetery. They are descendants of Rev. War Gen. Thomas Sumter's guide, Joseph (Jusef Ben Ali) Benenhaley (1753-1823). An outstanding book about this small ethnic group has been written about their complete history & their non-Negroe nitch during the days of slavery and racial segregation in the South (South Carolina's Turkish People, A History and Ethnology by Terri Ann Ognibene and Glen Browder, 235 pages, The University of South Carolina Press, 2018).
