At a later date, Genweb volunteers transcribed Dr. Marble's survey notes and made them available online at Rootsweb. At that time, the volunteers named it "Stoney Beach Cemetery" but, in the cemetery index, they listed the name simply as "Stoney Beach". They cited the location as Granville Beach.
Dr. Marble transcribed 383 headstones containing 615 inscriptions. This is an active cemetery, so the number of headstones is now greater than Dr. Marble's count in 1968. At that time, he noted that the headstones were in very good condition.
This is a large five-acre cemetery. The oldest identifiable stone is from 1780 but the site may have been the location of an even earlier Acadian cemetery, although there are no existing headstones for any Acadian burials. The following item appeared in the April 25, 1888 issue of the Bridgetown newspaper, the "Weekly Monitor".
"Stoney Beach Cemetery has just been incorporated by our local legislature, and is now in a position to sell lots. It is pleasantly situated on a small hill, easily seen in passing up and down the river, and has been used for burying purposes for over a hundred years. Rev. Jas. Manning, one of the pioneer Baptist ministers, lies buried here. The grave of Samuel Pickup, Esq., is here also. A fine monument of Aberdeen Granite marks the spot. Halls, Shaws, and Delaps, are names most frequently met with. The Company have enlarged the grounds and expect to make it a credit to the place."
DIRECTIONS: Turn south off Granville Road at the stone pillars beside civic #4308. Follow the dirt road, known as Stoney Beach Road, towards the Annapolis Basin. Take the first right, which leads to the cemetery parking area.
