This historic African American cemetery is now a grassy field and no longer has any visible stones. The cemetery was wooded as late as the 1960s. There was one stone remaining, leaning against a tree, as late as 1993, according to a report published in 1994 by the Forsyth County Joint Historic Properties Commission. It is believed that there are stones sunken beneath the present surface.

This publication says the cemetery may be among the oldest African American cemeteries in the county, with stones reported to be dated as far back as the Civil War.

A small frame church once stood beside this cemetery, but it burned on Easter Monday, 1942. The church was not in regular use at that time.

Silver Hill Cemetery is owned and maintained by United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. This church was formed in 1965 with the union of two older churches, West End Baptist Church, and First Institutional Baptist Church. According to local historian Mel White, the name West End or West End Baptist Church on some death certificates referred to Silver Hill Cemetery. It appears that West End Baptist Church owned Silver Hill Cemetery, and United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church now owns it because the two churches and their resources were merged to form the new church.
