Located in a busy downtown area of Montpellier, the triangular-shaped cemetery is surrounded by a six-foot solid wall. It is surrounded by streets on three sides. Closed on Sunday, it is open from 8AM to 5 PM during the rest of the week. The fourth protestant cemetery in Montpellier, the cemetery created in 1809 and enlarged four times: 1824, 1856, 1880 and 1923. The first burial took place on November 20, 1809. A small chapel was added in 1880 when it was enlarged. The cemetery measures one and a half acres with nearly 1,500 burials. The property has many shade trees along the paths and various types of grave markers including flat marble markers, towering upright markers with statues, sarcophagus, and family mausoleums. The plots are very tightly placed in rows with some black wrought iron chains or fences as borders.
