The sign at the entrance just says Masonic Cemetery but local funeral homes, historic sites, and genealogical sites all call this the Lafayette Masonic Cemetery. The Lafayette Masonic Cemetery is adjacent to the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery and they have perimeter fencing and even signs that are identical in style so that they appear to to be different sections of one cemetery. The cemeteries have separate entrances from Pinhook Road with signage but there is no dividing fence. The cemetery areas may be distinguished by the orientation of the tombs. The Lafayette Masonic Cemetery's graves are facing northeast while the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery's graves are facing northwest. Although the cemeteries themselves are more recent, the history of the two groups cooperation goes back to1857, when the Lafayette Masonic Lodge, Hope Lodge No. 145, received its charter. The first building that they used was also used for Protestant services.
