This is a large public square in the center of Wrocław. Before WWII it was named after General Friedrich Bogislav von Tauentzien, who defended the city from Austrian forces during the Seven Years' War. The general was buried in an elaborate monument in the center of the square. After Silesia was transferred to Poland following Germany's defeat in WWII, the monument was demolished and the square renamed after Tadeusz Kościuszko, a Polish hero who led a revolt against Russia following the Second Partition of Poland. However, it is unknown if Tauentzien's remains were exhumed following the demolition of the monument, and it is widely believed they are still buried under the square.
