Add PhotosFranklin Cemetery was established in 1840 at Pelham and Elkhart Streets. All the burials here were removed to Evergreen Memorial Park, Bensalem, and Willard Elementary school now occupies the site.
In 1947, the city contracted with Thomas A. Morris, owner of Evergreen Memorial Park in Bensalem Township to remove the 8000 bodies from the 2400 graves at Franklin Cemetery. In a newspaper article in 1988 in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the person, whose family owned Rosedale Memorial Park, which had purchased Evergreen Memorial Park believed that only 3000 of the bodies were removed and brought to Evergreen. He went on to say he believed those bodies were buried in King David Memorial Park, next door. Also the article mentioned bodies being interred at Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville although management at both King David and Sunset denied any bodies from Franklin Cemetery were buried there. This is the link to the Franklin Cemetery newspaper article, http://franklincemetery.wikidot.com/ It is possible therefore that not all the bodies were removed from Franklin Cemetery and re-interred at Evergreen Memorial Park. Where they actually were re-interred may never be known.
