This cemetery is located 4.2 miles from US Hwy 171 (5th Street) southeast of Leesville on LA Hwy 467/University Parkway just inside (0.2 mile) the Fort Polk Reservation boundary on the west side of the road.
History
The Grand Opening Ceremony of the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery (CLVC) in Leesville, LA., hosted by the LA Dept. of Veterans Affairs, was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.
Ground breaking ceremonies were November 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m for the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery (CLVC). The VA awarded the $6,135,259 grant to fund construction of a main entrance, a combined administration and public information center, a maintenance facility, roads, an assembly area, a committal service shelter, burial areas, memorial areas, columbaria, landscaping and supporting infrastructure. The initial construction project will include 595 standard burial plots, 1,190 preplaced concrete crypts, 265 gravesites for burial of cremated remains and 256 columbaria niches for above ground placement of cremated remains.
The cemetery will serve approximately 59,500 Louisiana veterans and their families in the region. The total property consists of approximately 204 acres and the initial project will develop approximately 16 acres. Construction will take twelve months to complete.
