There are also special sections dealing with World War II: a Netherlands Field of Honor with memorials and graves of forced labor and concentration camp victims from the Netherlands; sections for bombing victims from Hannover, and forced labor and concentration camp victims from other countries, predominantly eastern Europe, as well as a memorial for almost three hundred babies and small children of forced laborers who died from lack of care and nourishment.
On April 6, 1945, 154 persons from the former Soviet Union were murdered in this cemetery at a mass execution, just four days before the city was liberated by Allied forces. On May 2, 1945, they were exhumed and buried with honor and dignity at the Ehrenfriedhof am Maschsee-Nordufer. There is a monument to their memory at the site of the murders here in the Seelhorst cemetery. Monument for the War Graves in Sections 14/18/19, where 2097 forced laborers, 279 of their children, and 1304 bombing victims are buried, along with 456 soldiers who died in local hospitals. In the background are the graves of the bombing victims.
This side of the monument shows the years 1939-1945, on the other side are the years 1914-1918.
