Saint Otteran, otherwise Odhran, or Odran of Iona, was chosen by the Vikings, who established Waterford, to be the patron saint of the new town.
He is believed to have been born in Co. Meath, where he was an abbot, before he established the monastic community of Iona, where he was succeeded by St. Columba.
His death occurred in 548 AD.
Saint Otteran's Feast Day is 27th October.
