"Hamilton M. Chase, an investment counselor for almost half a century, died yesterday at the Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital. He was 83 years old and lived in Greenwich."

He joined the New York office of the Boston-based investment counseling firm of Scudder Stevens & Clark in 1929 and became a general partner, head of the consulting department and director of research before retiring in 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Hylah Coley Chase; a daughter, Clemency Coggins of Auburndale, Mass; a sister, Elizabeth Wilson of Houston; a brother, Charles, of Tucson, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Pamela Forcey of Manhattan, Heather Taylor of Middleburg, Va., and Binney Wells of Hopkinton, N.H.; two grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren."
