Marjorie M. Knoll, 92, State College, Pennsylvania, formerly Lincoln, died Thursday (9/6/07) at Foxdale Village. Born May 16, 1915 on a farm near Crete, Neb., she was the daughter of the late George E. and Beulah Wissenburg Knoll. She grew up on a ranch near Spencer, Neb. where she was valedictorian of her high school class. She took a normal training course, which prepared her to teach in rural schools. She taught music and the grades, in Monowi and Butte, Neb., and later she taught in Stratton and Beatrice high schools. In 1940, her parents moved to Lincoln where Marjorie lived at home and attended the University of Nebraska. She received Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees. She was an Instructor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., for five years. In 1954 she received her Ph.D. from Cornell University and rose there through the ranks to full professor. In 1962 she moved to the Pennsylvania State University as Head of the Dept. of Home Management, Arts and Interior Design. Following her mother's death in 1964, her father came to live with her in State College. They enjoyed happy years in a townhouse on Corl Street until his death in 1973. She retired from Penn State in 1980 as Professor Emeritus from the College of Health and Human Development. She was the author of many papers and the standard text book in her discipline. Marjorie received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Nebraska's College of Human Resources and Family Studies in 1994. Marjorie was much revered by her many students, friends, and colleagues.
