Canadian politician. Senator. A native of the city of Québec, he owned a hardware store and became a prominent merchant. In 1859, with the help of fellow members of the local business community, he created the Banque Nationale, an institution by and for the francophone community. On April 10, 1873, he was appointed to the Senate of Canada for the Gulf Division. In that house, he allied himself with the Conservative Party. He resigned on November 3, 1882. He passed away in his hometown.
