Country Singer. Born Thomas Charles Connors, he was a Canadian country folk singer, noted for writing and singing songs about his country. At age 14, he bought his first guitar and got his first job as a singer at the Maple Leaf Hotel in Timmins, Ontario. Nicked named Stompin' Tom, he rose to prominence in the late 1960s and released more than 20 albums, including "My Stompin' Grounds" and "Believe in Your Country", over a five-decade career. Writing over 300 songs and selling over four million records, he was best known for his patriotism hit singles "Sudbury Saturday Night" (1967), "The Bud Song" (1969), "Ketchup Song" (1970), "Moon Man Newfie" (1972) and "The Hockey Song" (1973). In the 1970s, he had his own mini-series running on CBC Television, plus also toured Canada, America and Europe. He is a six time recipient of the Juno Award for Canadian music, was honored with the Order of Canada in 1996 and was also featured on a postage stamp. He died at age 77 of natural causes on his farm at Ballinafad, near Erin Ontario.
