Professional Football Player. For nine seasons (1959 to 1967), he played at the defensive end and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. After attending Dansville High School in Michigan, he enlisted with the United States Navy and made his first impression on the gridiron as he starred on the Naval football team. He continued his athletic excellence at Michigan State University and earned All-Big Ten status twice (1957 and 1958) while attaining All-American honors in 1958. He additionally served as team captain and received Most Valuable Lineman recognition of the East-West Shrine Game in 1958. Selected by the Rams during the 24th-round of the 1956 NFL Draft (two years prior to leaving college), he appeared in 119 regular season games. During his years with the Lions (1960 to 1966), he was a component to a fearsome defensive line for which included Alex Karras, Darris McCord and Roger Brown. He has the distinction of being a part of the Atlanta Falcons' roster for which marked their inaugural season in the league (1966).
