Thomas Benton Kelso, a retired mail carrier, died Sunday night at his home on Cherry Street. He was 70 years old.

Services were Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Ray Panter officiated.

Mr. Kelso was a mail carrier for the Fayetteville Post Office for 36 years until his retirement in 1961. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was born and reared in Fayetteville.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wista Muse Kelso; a son, Lt. Cmdr. Frank B. Kelso, II of Bainbridge, Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. H. G. Barnes of Franklinton, Louisiana, Miss Frances Kelso of Monroe, Louisiana, and A. L. Bender of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Thomas Benton Kelso II, Robert Donald Kelso II, and Mary Catherine Kelso of Bainbridge.

Funeral services for Thomas Benton Kelso, 70, were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Higgins Funeral Home here, by the Rev. Billy Ray Panter. Burial was in Rose Hill Center.

Mr. Kelso died Sunday night at his home on Cherry Street.

The son of the late Frank Benton and Birdie Koonce Kelso, he was born and reared in Fayetteville. Until his retirement in 1961, he had been an employee of the post office department as a mail carrier for 36 years. He began with the post office in 1925, transferring to the Fayetteville Post Office in 1927.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Fayetteville.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wista Muse Kelso; one son, Lt.-Com. Frank B. Kelso, II, of Bainbridge, Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. H. G. Barnes of Franklinton, Louisiana, Miss Frances Kelso of Monroe, Louisiana, and Mrs. A. L. Bender of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Thomas Benton Kelso, II, Robert Donald Kelso, II, and Mary Catherine Kelso, of Bainbridge, Maryland.
