Rhode Island Governor. He was successful as the owner of wool mills in Wickford, Rhode Island and served as President-Director of Wickford National Bank. Entering politics, he was elected as a Republican Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, serving (1898-1900). In 1900, he was elected as the 46th Governor of Rhode Island, serving until his death from bight’s disease at age 52. While he was in office, the state constitution was amended to move the state capital to Providence and Gregory became the first governor to occupy the new marble State House.
