US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Maryland's 3rd District in the Twenty-Seventh Congress, he served from 1841 until his death in office. Little is known of his life before politics, which was probably spent at the family estate of Prieshford Farm in Deer Creek, Maryland. He was a three-term member of the State House of Delegates (1825, 1837 to 1839) and served as its Speaker in 1839. Williams died at Prieshford Farm and was interred in the family cemetery there; there is also a cenotaph for him at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC.
