Miss Hazel Berger
All who had known her were shocked when news reached them early Monday morning that Miss Hazel Berger had died the evening before at the hospital in Winfield. She had gone there about five weeks before to submit to a serious operation, but was supposed to be recovering nicely until four or five days before her death, when she grew worse, and passed away Sunday the 8th.
Mary Hazel Berger was born at Derby, September 17, 1893, having reached the age of twenty-five years, 8 months and 21 days at the time of her death.
About 16 years ago she came with her parents to the Allen farm two miles southeast of this city. She attended the Douglass schools, graduating from the high school in 1912. She had been engaged in teaching a great deal of the time since her graduation.
In 1912 she united with the M.E. church in Douglass, and has lived a life consistent with her profession, respected and admired by all who knew her.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Douglass, Tuesday afternoon last, the services being in charge of Rev. Hayes, who had been her pastor at McCabe church, where her attendance had been of late. Interment in the Douglass cemetery.
She leaves to deeply mourn her departure, her parents; three sisters; Mrs. Everett Barnes, Misses Jessie and Katherine; three brothers; Herbert, Harland and Woodrow, besides numerous relatives and friends.
Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved ones all through the community.
