U.S. Congressman. He moved to Indiana, with his parents in 1837, later engaged in mercantile pursuits in Noblesville, Indiana, in 1850 and also was in the grain-elevator and pork-packing business. In 1875, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1879. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his previous business interests until his death at age 78.
