Arthur H. 'Bus' Atwell Jr.of 815 Parkway Drive died at 6:28 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1922, in Madison County, he was the son of Arthur Sr. and Maru Lou Wiseman Atwell. On July 15,1952 in Monticello he married Mary Ann Guthrie, who survives.
He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and served from June 6, 1942 to December 15, 1961, during World War II and Korean War. He then owned the Enco Service Station at Third Street and Linden Avenue and was the current owner of Club 17 in Logansport. He served as city councilman in Logansport from January 1972 to December 1989.
He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and a former deacon. He was a life member V.F.W. Post 3790, American Legion Post 60 and 40 et 8 Volture 729 and member of Elks Lodge 66.
He was a coach for Babe Ruth Baseball and was president Logansport Little League in 1969.
He was a Logansport Berries sports fan, especially Berries baseball and served as president of Logansport Berry Boosters in 1974-1975.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Annette M. and Dale Urbin of Logansport, one son and daughter-in-law Michael And Edie Atwell of Logansport; two half brothers, Jack Atwell of Indianapolis and Jim Atwell of Anderson and five grandchildren, LaNette and Kyle Urbin and Michael, Anthony and Sunshine Atwell all of Logansport. One sister preceded in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home with the rev. Doug Mankell officiating. Burial with military rites will be in St. Johns Cemetery
