You were (and are) the finest soldier my country has ever bred. I've read the plethora of insulting & disrespectful comments posted here from stupid people who are either ignorant of history, or more likely just ignorant! Erwin Rommel was Nazi Germany's finest field commander. You defeated him in double short order, & smashed the Africa Korps in the process. The men under your command would have followed you anywhere, such was their trust in your tactical planning. My Uncle was one of those men.You let your results do the talking for you, there was no need to carry two pearl handled "cowboy" revolvers, & no need to slap one of your own (shellshocked) soldiers to attract attention to yourself. (unlike a General i could mention!) We live in a Europe of peace thanks largely to your brilliant military planning & foresight.Thank you Sir, You make me proud to be English!

Hero's will always attract negative comments, but what you did as part of the war effort means that we are free...even if it means that some can spout poor comment. those who remember will salute you. R.I.P.

Monty, It would be entirely unfair of me to criticize your tactics during the second war, or your character, which by all accounts was a decidedly mixed affair. You were a great general, and you played an important part in one of the world's great conflicts. Your temperament, however, apparently left a great deal to be desired, and you have come off rather poorly in American accounts of the war. I suppose talent and temperament go hand in hand. After all, where would armies be without ego. We might even stop fighting one another altogether, and that would never do. In any case, I salute you, and to whatever extent thanks is owed, I thank you. RIP

Well Operation Market garden went well. When he was appointed to command the 8th Army in 1942 he was the second choice. The original first choice was William Gott, whose plane was shot down on the way back to Egypt. And worst of all Im from England and Monty is vastly overrated. He cost the lives of thousands of allied troops with his lets get in there approach.Sleep well now Monty... Im sure you are answering all the questions on the otherside..
