Abigail was the only daughter of Hugh Sterling and Clara Prickett. She had four older brothers: Walter, Harry, Chester, and Allen Isaac. Abbie married James Avis in 1907. They had six children: Edna, Wilmer, Catherine, Ella, James, and Dorothy. Abbie's obituary was published in the Courier-Post on 2 Dec 1955.
