Actor, Screenwriter, Playwright. He will be remembered for his co-writing of several films and plays along with his wife Renee Taylor. He received his degree in Art History from Brown University and during this period, he initiated his interest in performing in theater productions. Following a stint with the United States Marine Corps, he landed a position as a director and producer of commercials for an advertising company. Along with his wife actress Renee Taylor they collaborated on the Broadway play "Lovers and Other Strangers" (1968), for which was made into a motion picture adaptation in 1970. He received an Academy Award nomination for his writing. He co-wrote and co-starred with his wife in the film "Made for Each Other" (1971) and went on to star in the pictures "Cops and Robbers" (1973), "Mixed Company" (1974), "The Big Bus" (1976), "Chapter Two" (1979), "My Favorite Year" (1982) and "Blame It on Rio" (1983). Along with his wife, he wrote the Broadway play "It Had to Be You" (1981), for which he co-starred on stage with Renee Taylor, in addition to directing and co-starring in the 1989 film adaptation of the same title. He received an Emmy Award for the TV-Movie "Acts of Love and Other Comedies" (1973) and earned an additional Emmy Award nomination for the TV-Movie "Paradise" (1974). He died from pancreatic cancer.
