Obert Owen Miller, 83, retired circus owner, died Wednesday, October 29, 1969, at Paris, Texas. He was born January 11, 1886, in Smith Center, Kansas.

Obert founded the Al G. Kelly-Miller Bros. Circus at Hugo, OK, in 1937. In 1924 he had started in show business as a circus performer. Obert retired recently and his son, D. R. Miller took over the circus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Dores Richard, Hugo, OK; one sister, Ruby Irene Smith, Smith, KS; two grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and three step-sons and a step-daughter.

Obert Miller parlayed a small dog and pony act on the vaudeville circuit into what was bill as the world's largest motorized circus. In the Fall of 1936, Obert Miller booked his family's acts for a five week holiday show in Herrs's Department store in Springfield, Missouri. It was there, on the third floor of the department store that the Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros. Circus came to life. Having spare time between performances, the Millers, Obert and his two sons, Dorey and Kelly, purchased canvas and hand sewed a 40' by 70' tent. The following March in the small town of Galenda, Missouri, the Al G. Kelly Miller and Miller Bros. Circus opened.
