Singer. Born in Santiago de Cuba. She begin her singing career in Cuba and was well known for her energetic and provocative performances. She was a member of
Trío Tropicuba with her first husband during her time in Cuba. Following the Bay of Pigs invasion, she moved to Mexico where she resumed her career before moving to United States. She was recording and scoring hits such as "Fever," "Qué Te Pedí," and "Puro Teatro". She was working with well known Latin artists such as Mongo Santamaría and Tito Puente. Her life was marred by her devotion to Santería, her financial problems and Fania Records' acquisition of Tico Records. She had been retired from her singing career but did make a brief comeback four years later when one of her fans making a charitable concert for her after she went through difficult times. Following her conversion to Christianity, she returned to recording Christian music and preaching in a church until her death.
